SPEAK UP & OUT … Medicare Call-In Day- 9/28/2011

According to LeadingAge, On Wednesday September 28th, they will be “hosting a Medicare Call-In day focused on urging members of Congress to only vote for a deficit-reduction plan that preserves Medicare payments to providers of long-term services and supports at their current level.”

LeadingAge is asking their members to place a call to the following number,  (855) 218-2109,  to explain why Medicare payments should be preserved.  LeadingAge has also provided  a script one can follow while on this very important call.

“I urge you to vote for a deficit-reduction plan that preserves Medicare payments to long-term services and support providers, and that protects seniors’ access to quality care. These providers already absorbed substantial Medicare cuts, and Medicare payments to nursing homes are set to be cut by 11% beginning Oct. 1. Protect this funding and ensure your older constituents receive the services they deserve.”

This Call-In is very important to individuals who are recipient of Medicare and want to call attention to preserving Medicare payments to providers of long-term, home health and nursing home care.

South Florida home care agency, Trinity Health Care Services, Inc., has teamed up with Florida Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) to recruit and educate senior volunteers about medicare fraud

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 29, 2011 - Trinity Health Care Services, Inc. partnered with Florida Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) in a commitment to prevent Medicare fraud a midst South Florida’s senior population.                 Trinity Health Care Services, Inc. Trinity Health Care Services, Inc. is one of South Florida’s premier home health care agencies dedicated to providing excellent home care solutions and educating their clients. The Senior Medicare Patrol is a recognized force with the United States government and its efforts to eliminate fraud, which drains billions of dollars a year. These two organizations has decided to join forces to educate, inform and recruit volunteers to get the word out about Medicare fraud and abuse among seniors here in South Florida.

The magnitude of Medicare fraud in South Florida has reached new heights. South Florida has been deemed the “Medicare Fraud Capital”. Thousands of active and dependent seniors fall victims to Medicare fraud every year. According to The National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association, Florida’s $16 billion Medicaid program loses $2 billion dollars a year to fraud and abuse. This fraud and abuse is committed by caregivers, con-artist and bogus physicians. The Justice Department has led some of the biggest takedown of Medicare fraud offenders in Miami, Florida.

The Florida Senior Medicare Patrol recruit, train and deploy its volunteers to senior centers, retirement communities and elsewhere to encourage Medicare beneficiaries to guard their personal information, beware of too-good-to-be-true offers on medical equipment and review their benefit statements. The Senior Medicare Patrol also collects tips on potential scams and fields calls from senior citizens who believe their Medicare accounts have been fraudulently billed. The volunteer program educate beneficiaries and caregivers on how to Protect, Detect and Report fraud to their dedicated toll-free hotline, 1-866-357-6677.

Florida Senior Medicare Patrol representative, Leonard Scarpati, sought Trinity Health Care Services, Inc. as their Broward County partner to educate their patients, partners, affiliates and employees about the importance of informing the public about healthcare fraud and abuse. Florida Senior Medicare Patrol has armed Trinity Health Care Services, Inc. with marketing material and worksheets that could be easily distributed and posted for visibility. Florida Senior Medicare Patrol and Trinity Health Care Services also partner together to attend events and training  together and inform the public about their respective services. This partnership is just the beginning of the dynamic relationships healthcare companies and outside agencies must form to put an end to Medicare fraud and abuse among seniors.
